He became one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his generation. He first came to the United States in 1835 to draw the buildings, towns, and scenery of the Northeastern United States. Bartlett's renditions were accurate and interesting for travelers from America as well as abroad. His work is considered some of the best historic American documentation ever published during the early 19th Century. The work of W.H.
